Periodontal Disease and Covid-19: theoretical basis and epidemiology

This work is justified in view of the emergence of the theme, in the face of a virus that changed the reality of the entire planet. In dentistry, many studies are still needed to clarify the interactions that the SARS-CoV-2 virus has on periodontal conditions. This work compiled various aspects of interaction between Covid-19 and other systemic conditions, in addition to highlighting the main problems affecting epidemiology in Brazil and other countries.

Milena Lima da Silva

Undergraduate in dentistry at the University of Pernambuco (UPE), Arcoverde campus, Brazil, currently studying in the tenth semester. During her undergraduate studies, she worked on research and scientific initiation projects in fields of research relating to dental trauma, use of photosensitizers based on plant extracts in dentistry, periodontal disease and COVID-19, information and communication technology (ICT) and analysis sialometry and sialochemistry in saliva from patients who contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus.

Yorhan Hansley da Silva de Medeiros

Bachelor in Agronomy from the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco – UFRPE, Sede-Recife campus (2020). Master’s student in the Postgraduate Program in Agronomy – Plant Breeding, with an emphasis on melon breeding at the Federal Rural University of Pernambuco. Alcieros Martins da Paz

She has a degree in Dentistry from the Faculty of Dentistry of Pernambuco – FOP and a master’s degree in Public Health, with a concentration in Epidemiology from the Federal University of Pernambuco (2006). Currently doing a doctorate degree in Public Health at Fiocruz/PE. She is an assistant professor at the University of Pernambuco (UPE) and a public health professional in Recife, working in the Coordination of the Multiprofessional Residency Program in Public Health. She has experience in the field of Public Health, working mainly on the following topics: health policies, epidemiology, dentistry, health education and teaching management.

Leógenes Maia Santiago

Graduated in Dentistry from the Caruaruense Society of Higher Education (SCES), specialization in Dentistry, Periodontics, Integrated Clinic, Implantology and Distance Learning (EAD), Master’s degree in Health Sciences from the Federal University of Pernambuco and Doctorate in Dentistry/Integrated Clinic from Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). He is currently an adjunct professor of the Dentistry Course at Centro Universitário Tabosa de Almeida – ASCES/UNITA, Adjunct Professor of the undergraduate course in Dentistry at the University of Pernambuco (UPE), Campus Arcoverde (PE), Guest Professor at the Brazilian Association of Dentistry-ABO (Imperatriz – MA), professor of the Specialization Course in Implantology and improvement in Periodontics at ICOM/FAIPE. Member of the Foundation for Oral Rehabilitation (FOR). He has experience in the field of Dentistry, in an Integrated Clinic with an emphasis on Periodontics and Implantology, working mainly on the following topics: periodontics, periodontal surgery, implantology and periodontal disease.
